Creativity

To awaken creativity, is to awaken the resources you have available in yourself, in a group and in the community. Creativity builds on itself, so that the more a community knows about the creative resources and talents it has the more willing others are to show theirs. Expressing creativity resources faith in what people can do and excites other people to develop their own creativity too.

Working with this line serves:

  • To know the resources and talents that a group or a community has.
  • To experiment with new ways of working in the community context.
  • To motivate a group or a community in their current challenges.
  • To learn new strategies to face problems on a personal level, group and community.
  • To start working from a community approach.

Example; Also in Athens (664,046 inhabitants), within the GoToDivers project, creativity was played, 10 people were doing individual and collective work on the subject of creativity, in this case, most of the people who played this line, They raised the challenge of passing their own limits with this issue. This took the community and focused on the visibility of individual and collective talents. A snack was organized to showcase these talents and a collective mural was made with the individual talents of the people, of all ages, who participated in the center where the game was played.

Diversity

The diversity line helps you and your team explore the diversity in the neighbourhood and community. When people understand differences then this can have a big impact on relationships and also on what communities can practically do. Sometimes people are scared by differences but meeting new people and getting to know the difference can often surprise us and it provides a lot the raw material for human creativity.

Working with this line serves;

  • To get to know the group and the community better from a diversity perspective.
  • To connect with the importance of working in and for diversity.
  • To incorporate people and different points of view to our daily work.
  • To give space to people and points of view normally marginalized.
  • To be open to change our usual work processes, incorporating other points of view

Example; In the Godeep that we played in Grotallie, we played the line of diversity. The group was very diverse, different nationalities, from different continents. The group progressively played the cards, discussed topics like what it means to be a majority, or a minority … sharing these reflections with the community. Dialogue spaces were created in which conflicting interactions appeared in the community, which could be worked on in the small group. In the end, the group decided to make an intercultural celebration, emphasizing that all people felt invited, all people from an open approach to diversity. In that snack there was music from many parts of the world, there was food from different places and above all a space of connection was created to celebrate diversity.

Vision

The vision line explores, hopes, dreams and desires for the future. What different ideas exist inside you, in your team and out there in the individuals and groups that make up your community. When dreams are shared and developed together they give hope and direction. With this direction plans can be made. Without a vision communities are often lost.

Working with this line serves:

  • To collectively build the common vision of a working group.
  • To imagine different future scenarios in a community.
  • To incorporate into our work the vision of the community from a diversity approach.
  • To have a starting point from which to plan our actions.
  • To reactivate processes that we feel are standing

Example; In the municipality of Lozoya (576 inhabitants), in 2017, this line was played to support the process of collective management of a community space, the courtyard of the convent. In this space there had been a participatory process two years ago, the driving team of this space decided to play Godeep to support the process of “vision” about the space, with the idea of reactivating the process that had decreased in participation and also learning a new tool A group of 10 players played the whole line, ending with a final community event of 100 people. The game was part of a course on community dynamization, in which there was a module called “tools for community dynamization”.

Power and Rank

Most of us are not good at recognising our own power or estimating correctly  the power of other people. Many things affect how we think of ourselves and other people and so this line explores how our perceptions can be brought up to date and how we can clearly identify our personal and collective power so we can all make a difference.

Working with this line serves;

  • To bring awareness to the dynamics of power in our collectives and communities.
  • To know the diversity behind social dynamics.
  • To face in a different way the issue of power in a group or a community
  • To help people, groups and communities connect with their own power.
  • To work on issues that may be difficult for the group to face.

Example; In the month of May 2018 in Portugal in the municipality of Setúbal, in the fishing district of Santo Domingo (52,000 inhabitants), GoDeep was played, within the European program GoDeep in education. Santo Domingo is a neighborhood of fishermen of the most disadvantaged in the city, with a larger population and problems of limited services. More than 50 people participated in the game, the group decided to play the line of power, creativity and union. Different community actions were carried out: a mural where the community was reflecting the powers of the neighborhood, a photocall in which people were showing their superpower, playing the power line, other actions were also taken. The result was exposed in a community party that was already scheduled for that date, which was supported and content from GoDeep.

Feelings

The feelings-line focusses on finding out feelings can really help everyone. Many people have emotions and feelings about life, their neighbourhood and community but never get a chance to explore or to express these emotions. This can be a crucial first step to building community and a sense of solidarity amongst people who have not yet connected with each other.

Working with this line serves;

  • To deepen the knowledge of a group or a community.
  • To build bridges between different people within a community.
  • To create a space of emotional expression that may need a group or a community.
  • To know in another way, a deeper way to the members of a group.
  • To work on issues that may be difficult for the group to face.

Example;  In October 2016, in Grotaglie (32,144 inhabitants) in southern Italy, this line was played, simultaneously with another 2, at a meeting of different entities and people from Europe, hosted by an association (Babele) that works with refugees . The group of players was composed of people from different parts of Europe, volunteers from the association, people from other associations in the municipality and refugee boys. During the development of the line the group decided to make a “map of emotions” of the city center, at first the group was working on emotions internally, sharing this work with the community in the form of small theater pieces , which helped to reflect on emotions and to be able to have meaningful conversations with neighbors using and jointly constructing the map of emotions.

Togetherness

This line explore how we are all connected. We all make an impact on other people and others affect how we are. We often don’t realise how a wall change that we make can make a huge difference to others. This line explores the idea …“I am because you are and because we are therefore I am.”

Working with this line serves

  •  To generate a sense of belonging to the group and / or community.
  • To connect from the action, to know yourself doing.
  • To initiate or reactivate community work from our organization.
  • To know the resources and talents that we have around us.
  • To reactivate a community process that requires the participation of different people.

Example; In March 2017 within the GoToDivers program, this line was played in Athens (664,046 inhabitants) with 2 more lines, in a European Training from the perspective of diversity. We played in the Kolonos Neighborhood, around the headquarters of Action Against Hunger in Athens. A group of 15 people played this line, whose final result was a collective theater play, which was shown to the community in a park, in which the need to be connected was expressed, during the work posters were placed in the park with positive messages, at the end a collective poetry was read. Before carrying out this action, the group was talking with the neighbors of the neighborhood and identifying the emerging issues in it.

Resilience

We had big plans prepared for 2020, but suddenly, in the middle of this retreat, we were taken by surprise by the eruption of Covid-19, this invisible, omnipresent agent that seems to lurk around every corner and that has modified in a matter of weeks the reality of the world in which we live.

We felt for a moment in the confusion, in which, if we are honest, some of us still continue: at times there is fear and pain , at others the feeling of facing a great opportunity. We have many questions and not many answers, and the certainty that the world will never be the same again, and we wonder here:

  • How will the new world that is coming be?
  • What can I/we contribute now that can make this dramatic situation more bearable?
  • Can I participate in the creation of this new world and reality that little by little is taking shape?
  • Can this be an opportunity to empower our communities and take leadership in changing the world, creating the one we want?
  • Can we play Go Deep online?

… and in that confusion, a burst of energy and creativity emerges to put itself at the service of the community and create the new line of Resilience
